Car Accidents in California
Car accidents are a leading cause of death and injury in California. In 2016, there were more than 3,600 fatal car accidents in the state, and over 220,000 people were injured. Many of these accidents could have been prevented if drivers had been more careful.
While accidents can happen for many reasons, there are some common causes that contribute to a significant number of crashes. Here are some of the most common causes of car accidents in California:
Distracted driving: With the rise in the use of cell phones and other electronic devices, distracted driving has become a serious problem. Drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or even just fiddling with their GPS are more likely to cause an accident.
Reckless driving: This includes things like tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic, and running red lights. Reckless driving is extremely dangerous and often leads to serious accidents.
Speeding: speeding is one of the most common causes of car accidents. Speeding puts other drivers at risk, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
Driving under the influence: Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous and contributes to a large number of car accidents each year.
Inclement weather: Many car accidents are caused by weather conditions. When it rains, visibility is decreased, and the roads become more slippery. This can make it difficult for drivers to see other cars or obstacles on the road. If a driver is going too fast, they may not be able to stop in time to avoid an accident. Additionally, snow and ice can make roads very slippery and dangerous. Drivers need to be extra careful when driving in these conditions.
