Los Angeles, CA - Wrong-Way Crash on 10 Fwy Kills One, Injures Others
Los Angeles, CA (April 22, 2025) – An early morning crash on Easter Sunday took place in downtown Los Angeles when a wrong-way driver caused a deadly three-vehicle accident on the 10 Freeway. The incident took place around 5:25 a.m. near Central Avenue and resulted in one confirmed fatality and several injuries.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the collision involved a white pickup truck and a dark-colored sedan. Emergency crews arrived to find extensive damage across multiple lanes of the westbound side of the freeway. The crash led to severe traffic disruptions as the affected stretch remained closed until approximately 9:00 a.m., causing delays for Easter travelers.
Authorities say a total of four individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of the victims suffered critical injuries. The current conditions of the remaining victims have not been disclosed. At this time, the role of driver impairment has not been ruled out. The identity of the wrong-way driver has not been released, and law enforcement continues to investigate what led to the crash. It remains unclear where the vehicle entered the freeway in the wrong direction.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in California
California sees a high volume of traffic accidents each year, with thousands of collisions reported across the state. In 2022 alone, over 4,000 people lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents on California roads. Urban areas like Los Angeles are especially prone to such incidents due to high congestion, late-night traffic, and frequent freeway transitions. Understanding what happens after an accident can be overwhelming. Here are some things drivers and families should know about how accidents can impact victims and their loved ones:
- Wrong-Way Collisions: These are some of the most serious types of crashes, often resulting in head-on impacts. They frequently occur late at night or early in the morning and are sometimes caused by impaired or confused drivers. The injuries from such crashes are usually severe due to the force involved.
- Traffic Disruptions: Major crashes on freeways, especially involving multiple vehicles, often lead to prolonged closures. This creates added stress for other drivers and first responders, as well as potential delays in medical attention.
- Investigative Delays: Serious crashes often require extended investigation times. Authorities collect evidence, analyze damage, and try to piece together events leading up to the crash, which can delay any immediate answers for families.
- Victim Support Services: Those hurt in accidents may be eligible for victim support services, including trauma counseling, financial aid, and legal guidance. These services are important in helping people heal emotionally and physically.
