Fatal Car Accidents in California
Every year, thousands of people lose their lives as a result of crashes in the state of California. No matter how careful drivers are, there is no way to prevent others from engaging in acts of negligence. Unfortunately, there are several reasons why we continue to see fatal collisions happen day after day. These include:
- The state's population is growing. California is now home to almost 40 million people, and as the population increases, so does the number of cars on the road.
- More people are driving distracted. With the proliferation of smartphones, more drivers are texting, emailing, and using social media while behind the wheel.
- Alcohol-related crashes are on the rise. According to NHTSA data, alcohol was a factor in 30% of all fatal car accidents in California each year.
Speeding remains a problem. Speeding is a factor in about one-third of all fatal car accidents nationwide, and it likely plays a role in many of the fatalities here in California.
