Oakland, CA – Pedestrian Andrew Tonken Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Piedmont Ave near West MacArthur Blvd
Oakland, CA (August 29, 2022) – A fatal pedestrian accident reported in the Oakland area led to one woman being arrested. At around 4 p.m., on August 25, emergency crews were notified that a crash occurred on Piedmont Avenue.
Preliminary investigations indicate that 31-year-old Andrew Tonkin was walking across MacArthur Boulevard in the area near Piedmont Avenue during the early evening hours.
At the same time, 31-year-old Danniqua Tims was driving a 2016 Chrysler at a high rate of speed through the intersection. As a result, the vehicle struck the pedestrian as he crossed in a marked crosswalk.
Tonkin was severely injured due to the vehicle collision. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Tims fled the scene of the accident without stopping. She later returned to the scene of the accident and was arrested on a suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and a hit-and-run accident causing death.
The crash is under investigation at this time.
