Los Angeles County, CA (September 12, 2025) – Early on Wednesday morning, September 12, a deadly two-car collision shut down all lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway near Griffith Park.

The crash was reported shortly after 3 a.m. near the junction with the 134 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). At least one vehicle caught fire following the impact. One person became trapped inside the burning car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

All northbound lanes of the I-5 remained closed for several hours while emergency crews worked to secure the area and investigate the incident. By 7:30 a.m., CHP confirmed that all lanes had reopened to traffic.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Officials have not released the identity of the victim at this time.
