Car Accidents in California
Thousands of people in Southern California suffer serious injuries every year because of car accidents. Unfortunately, many of these victims end up in the hospital with traumatic brain injuries, internal organ damage, and severe bone fractures. Even if you are a cautious driver, it is impossible to control the actions of others who may be driving recklessly. Sadly, around 80% of car accidents happen because of driver error. Here are some of the main reasons car accidents occur in our state:
- Distracted driving: Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents. Drivers who take their eyes off the road to look at their phones or pay attention to other passengers are more likely to cause an accident. It only takes a split second of distraction to miss a crucial moment, such as a sudden stop or an obstacle on the road.
- Poor road conditions: Bad road conditions can also lead to accidents. Potholes, construction zones, or poorly maintained roads require extra caution. Drivers need to be more alert when facing these conditions because they increase the chances of losing control or damaging the vehicle.
- Drunk driving: Another major cause of accidents is drunk driving. When people consume alcohol and then get behind the wheel, their ability to make quick decisions, focus, and maintain control of the vehicle is greatly impaired. This puts everyone on the road at risk and leads to serious, and often deadly, accidents.
- Speeding: Driving at excessive speeds is another common cause of accidents. When drivers go too fast, they have less time to react to sudden changes, such as a car stopping or someone changing lanes unexpectedly. Speeding also makes it more difficult to maintain control of the vehicle, especially around curves or in wet weather.
After a car accident, you may have legal options to help you recover from the physical and financial impact of your injuries. One of the first steps you should take is to speak with a Los Angeles car accident lawyer. Filing a personal injury claim against the driver who caused the accident can help you recover money to pay for medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses that arise due to the crash.
