Car Accidents in California
Automobile collisions take place far too often in California. In fact, nearly half of the million accidents are reported on our roadways every year. There are countless instances where these accidents take place as a result of negligence. Leading factors in collisions include:
- Running red lights
- Passing stop signs
- Tailgating
- Inexperienced drivers
- Fatigue
- Distracted driving
- Speeding
Unfortunately, any negligent or reckless action can lead to a serious accident that severely harms those involved. If you have the unfortunate experience of being harmed in an accident, you must reach out to a Los Angeles car accident lawyer right away. You have the ability to file a claim to recover compensation for some of the losses and damages that you face.
Your attorney will be able to help you pursue a personal injury claim against the responsible party. Some of the damages you can recover following your accident include:
- Medical expenses
- Emotional distress
- Property damage
- Pain and suffering
- Lost wages
- Loss of consortium
In California, the compensation you recover is paid out based on the pure comparative negligence doctrine. This doctrine states that even if you are 99 percent at fault for an accident occurring, you still have the ability to recover compensation for any damages that you have suffered as a result of another person’s negligence. This makes it critically important for you to have strong legal representation to prove that the defendant is responsible for the losses and damages you have suffered so that you can maximize your recovery.
