Los Angeles, CA – Child Killed in Crash on S Crenshaw Blvd
Los Angeles, CA (March 20, 2025) – Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver responsible for a fatal crash in Leimert Park that claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy and left two others, including his mother, with serious injuries.
The crash occurred late Tuesday night, March 18, at approximately 11 p.m. on South Crenshaw Boulevard between Obama and Exposition Boulevards. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a white Infiniti FX35 was speeding northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard near Rodeo Place when the driver lost control. The vehicle slammed into a building at the corner, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
Emergency responders arrived to find three victims trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters worked quickly to free them before paramedics rushed them to Cedars-Sinai Hospital for treatment. Tragically, the young boy did not survive his injuries. His mother and another adult passenger sustained severe injuries and remain hospitalized. Authorities say the driver, described as a woman in her 30s, fled the scene before police arrived. The LAPD is actively investigating the crash and working to locate the suspect.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the young boy who lost his life. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims as they recover.
Car Accidents in California
California experiences a high number of hit-and-run accidents each year. According to state data, thousands of hit-and-run crashes occur annually, leaving victims with severe injuries and devastating losses. Many drivers flee the scene out of fear of legal consequences, but leaving an injured person behind can have life-threatening implications.
Understanding the risks of hit-and-run accidents is crucial. Here are some key factors contributing to these incidents:
- Speeding: Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, making it more difficult for drivers to maintain control.
- Distracted Driving: Cell phone use, adjusting controls, and other distractions lead to countless preventable accidents.
- Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drug impairment significantly increase the likelihood of reckless driving and hit-and-run incidents.
- Failure to Obey Traffic Signals: Running red lights or stop signs contributes to many intersection-related hit-and-run crashes.
- Lack of Accountability: Some drivers flee the scene to avoid consequences, leaving victims without immediate help.
