Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Hundreds of pedestrians die as a result of crashes that take place here in the state of California. These accidents often leave families struggling to move forward. Unfortunately, many of these accidents are preventable. We see countless victims die as a result of drivers who engage in acts of negligence. Leading causes of fatal pedestrian crashes here in California include:
- Drivers who are speeding
- Impaired motorists
- Drivers who are distracted
- Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians
In the state of California, if a pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident caused by another driver’s negligence, the victim’s surviving family members may be able to recover certain types of damages through a wrongful death lawsuit. Some of the most common types of recoverable damages in these cases include medical expenses incurred prior to the victim’s death, funeral and burial costs, and loss of companionship or support.
In addition to these economic damages, which are intended to compensate the victim’s family for their financial losses, survivors may also be able to recover non-economic damages for their pain and suffering. These types of damages do not have a dollar value but can be just as significant as the economic losses suffered by the family.
If you have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident caused by someone else’s negligence or recklessness, you should consult with an experienced California wrongful death attorney to discuss your legal rights and options.
